Balmoral Hotel Belfast - Glenriver Restaurant - Accommodation, wedding, conference, food, Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland

In the early 1930's at the top of Blacks Road there was an area of trees and bushes. In this area the local people built a shed where they would congregate. This shed was named the Tam of the Taend (land of the bushes), which apparently was very familiar to the area of Blacks Road. Blacks Road derives from Black Mountain at the top and Dunmurry Road at the bottom.

The Earl of Suffolk moved into the area and split the boundaries, hence Suffolk Road. He started up a Pearl factory situated where Marguerita Park now stands. The shop, which still remains, is what is left of the stables surrounding his estate. Behind the Balmoral Hotel flows a river from Colin Glen to Dunmurry. This river is named the GLENRIVER.

Hence we took the name Glenriver Restaurant.
